The Seamstress from Sardinia

The main character of the novel by the famous Italian writer Bianchi Pitzorno is a girl from a very poor family, born in a small town on the island of Sardinia at the end of the 19th century. She learned to read by herself, loves women's romantic novels and Puccini's operas, but even if deep down she dreams of a charming prince, in real life she relies only on her intellect and skilled hands.

Through the eyes of the young seamstress, who has access to wealthy homes, we witness the amazing stories of the residents of her town. There are love dramas, broken hearts, and even murder (or maybe suicide?).

The book resembles the classic novels that the main character loves to read, and at the same time, it raises quite modern themes of female independence, self-belief, freedom, and the search for one’s own path.
