The Pit

The novella by Alexander Kuprin "The Pit", written by 1909, became a true bombshell among critics and readers at the beginning of the 20th century.

Before us lies a tragic and true story about the inhabitants of a brothel, whose lives were fundamentally destroyed by the twists of fate. The intertwining of the girls' characters with those of the clients, vividly illuminated by the artificial lights of the night of destiny, makes it clear how hard it was for women of that time.

It took Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin about six years to create this work, where extremely truthful, naked stories presented to the reader could evoke, above all, sympathy and understanding, and the complex theme would captivate so much that there would be no room left for judgment.
