The Call of Cthulhu

“The Call of Cthulhu” is a collection of the best stories and novellas by H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937). This edition includes some of his most famous works: “Dagon,” “The Festival,” “The Call of Cthulhu,” “The Dunwich Horror,” and “The Whisperer... in Darkness.” All texts are published in a new translation by R. V. Grishchenkov specifically for this publication. The atmosphere of mystery and horror is masterfully conveyed by the illustrations of the talented artist O. A. Rusakova.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890–1937) was an American writer and journalist, a genius storyteller who made an immeasurable contribution to the development of horror literature. His imagination truly knew no bounds, and his books have been translated into many languages around the world and influenced the works of a number of renowned writers, including Robert Howard, Fritz Leiber, Robert Bloch, Henry Kuttner, Arthur Machen, Stephen King, and others. L. Sprague de Camp, a famous fantasy writer and biographer of Lovecraft, assessing the contribution made by the master of horror to world literature, said: “Cthulhu is a myth that is on par with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Barsoom by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Zimiamvia by Eric Rücker Eddison, Oz by Frank Baum, the Hyborian Age by Robert Howard, and Middle-earth by Tolkien. By giving literary form to his own neuroses and nightmares, he strikingly touched the most sensitive areas in the souls of millions of readers.” The fantastic, emotionally stirring texts of Lovecraft did not leave the public indifferent during the writer's lifetime and continue to inspire admiration even after his death. In his works, Lovecraft created a universe filled with dark omens, painful uncertainty, and chaos. This edition includes five mystical works by Lovecraft: “Dagon,” “The Festival,” “The Call of Cthulhu,” “The Dunwich Horror,” and “The Whisperer in Darkness.” All texts are published in the translation of Rostislav Grishchenkov.
