Grigory Dashevsky (1964–2013) was a classic philologist, literary critic, translator, but above all — a poet. Over three decades, he wrote little, yet for readers of contemporary poetry, each of his poems became an event. Despite his principled rejection of the comforting, therapeutic function of literature, his poems possess a salvific quality; they tell of human loneliness and its community with others, finding a new language to describe life in the presence of death. The book includes Dashevsky's poetic works from four collections compiled by the author himself and a posthumously published collection of poems and translations.
