Boris Shergin (1893-1973) is a profound phenomenon of Russian literature, a great master of filigree, "soul-building" words, rooted in the folk creativity of the Russian North, its tales and epic poems. In this collection, the best works of the author are grouped by the main themes for him: about the true bonds of family, about passing "father's knowledge" to children, about the difficult "sea service," about the people's artistic striving for beauty, about the beautiful and harsh northern land. Of special interest are excerpts from the writer's diary from 1939-1968. They allow us to touch upon his most intimate thoughts about faith, about man and his co-creation with the Creator.
