How Dinosaurs Died. The Killer Asteroid and the Birth of a New World

This book is unique. Riley Black recreates the picture of events during the mass extinction of the Cretaceous period through the examples of specific animals as if she were there at the time. It all begins on the eve of the catastrophe, and then, chapter by chapter, we follow the journey of Riley Black's heroes through different days of their lives: an hour, a day, a month, a year, a century, up to a million years after our planet collided with an asteroid. As the end of the world approaches Earth, we learn how a Triceratops suffers from a tumor, how difficult it is for Tyrannosaurus rex to feed its massive body, and how dangerous this world is for a newly hatched and abandoned by its mother Alamothosaurus. But the most terrifying—and most interesting—is ahead. To avoid distracting the reader from the plot, Black provides an extensive appendix at the end of the book with comments explaining which descriptions correspond to scientific facts and what is fictional in the portrayals and biographies of the heroes. However, science does not stand still, and it is quite possible that today's hypothetical constructs by the author will find confirmation tomorrow.
