Trollhol

A novice Russian artist takes on a commission to paint a picture. The client, an attractive Swede, wants to immortalize his house located on the shores of Trollhol Island in the northwestern part of Sweden. The main condition of the... commission is that the house must be depicted from life. The artist arrives on the island and learns that there is an ancient fortress that has been besieged by enemies numerous times but has never been captured. The locals believe that the king who founded this fortress held the defense with the help of certain mystical beings—either trolls or some other giant monsters. These creatures sensed those who came with the intention to take something—be it land, a house, or even someone's heart. It is said that these powerful guardians still hide in the depths of Trollhol and protect the island from outsiders. The more the artist is drawn to the owner of the house, the more she feels the threat looming over her.
