Swamp

The novel "Swamp" is a standalone continuation of the psychological detective by the famous Swedish writer Liza Marklund, "The Polar Circle" (Russian translation 2022).
The main character is Viking Stormberg, the chief of police in Stentresk, who not only investigates a real crime but also struggles with the shadows of the past — a letter from his wife Helena, received by their son Markus, deprives him of sleep and peace. After all, Helena drowned in the swamp thirty years ago. Despite the passage of so many years, Viking has not forgotten her. The plot unfolds completely unexpectedly. This is not only a detective story but also a love story that connects the events of the 1980s with our time.

Liza Marklund (b. 1962) is referred to as the queen of Swedish detective fiction. Her debut novel "The Bomber" (1998) was a colossal success and received several literary awards. The series of detective stories about journalist Annika Bengtzon, in the opinion of critics, forever changed the traditions of the genre, which had been dominated by men. In 2010, Liza Marklund, together with American writer James Patterson, wrote the novel "The Postcard Killers" and became the second Swedish author after Stieg Larsson whose work topped The New York Times bestseller list. In her new novels, the writer, whose childhood and youth were spent in the far north of Sweden, has returned to her roots. The action takes place in the small town of Stentresk against the backdrop of the harsh and majestic northern nature.
