The Author of Iceland

"The Author of Iceland" is an original innovative novel that captivates the reader in an incredible journey through the world of Icelandic culture of the past century. Hálldór Laxness (1902–1998), a Nobel laureate, finds himself after death in his own novel "Independent People" as the basis for this book created by Halgrim Helgason, inspired by his dream. By placing the narrator-hero in such circumstances, the author touches on questions about the relationship between the writer and his work, reality and artistic fiction, life and death.
Halgrim Helgason (born 1959) is one of the most famous contemporary Icelandic writers, a laureate of many literary awards, and a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France (2021). He was awarded the national literary prize for the novel "The Author of Iceland" (2001). His books "101 Reykjavík", "Ten Household Tips for a Hired Killer", "A Woman at 1000 °C", and "Sixty Kilograms of Sunshine" have been published in Russian.
