It depicts events relating to the 3rd century AD, when China was divided into three independent
kingdoms, constantly waging war against each other. However, calling it a "historical" novel is debatable: rather, it is an incredible intertwining of many plots (the reader will find here descriptions of military battles,
intrigues, power struggles, romantic adventures, and much more), where historical accuracy is combined with myths and legends of Ancient China.
This edition prints the text based on the two-volume work published by the State Publishing House of Fiction in 1954
