Refined and succinct, Japanese haiku poetry has always reflected the world of nature, embodied in the endless change of the seasons. A person living an ordinary life, whose five senses are attuned to the constant perception of the beauty of the earth and sky, flowers and grasses, the songs of cicadas and the warmth of the sun, is the lyrical hero of a genre that unites poetry, painting, and calligraphy. Haiku authors created a kind of poetic calendar, which dedicated space for various plants and animals, insects, birds, and fish, as well as everyday sketches and holidays. This truly unique edition offers the reader a glimpse into the world of nature through the prism of Japanese triplets. The book covers the first two seasons of the year — spring and summer — and contains over one and a half thousand haiku by celebrated classics of the genre, translated by the renowned Orientalist Alexander Arkadyevich Dolin. The design features numerous engravings and drawings by medieval Japanese authors, as well as paintings by the well-known contemporary master of Japanese painting in the sumi-e style, Oleg Usov. The collection is complemented by calligraphic works by Stanislav Usov.
