"Moscow Sovereigns" — a monumental cycle of novels created by the writer, philologist-Russianist, folklorist, and historian Dmitry Balashov. This epic chronicle, a kind of grand novel-epic, fitting into a multi-volume edition, covers the period of Russian history from 1263 to 1425 and has for many decades continued to amaze readers with its depth, scale, vivid imagery, and masterful stylization of the language. Together, the novels of the cycle form a chronologically structured narrative, in which events from the history of major principalities unfold year by year, depicting the life and customs of various classes, as well as the fates, appearance, and character of hundreds of historical figures. "Holy Rus'" — a historical novel by Dmitry Balashov in eight books, part of the cycle "Moscow Sovereigns", tells of the Battle of Kulikovo and the events that followed: the campaign of Tokhtamysh against Moscow and the betrayal of the Suzdal princes, the conclusion of the Union of Krevo, and the ascetic activities of St. Sergius of Radonezh.
