Spartacus

Raffaello Giovagnoli (1838–1915) - a renowned Italian writer and revolutionary, associate of Giuseppe Garibaldi, admirer and diligent student of Walter Scott and Alexandre Dumas, an outstanding connoisseur of Ancient Roman history. His most popular novel "Spartacus" tells the story of the legendary slave uprising led by a fearless fighter who devoted all his strength and passion to the struggle for freedom. It is a novel about beautiful and dramatic love, about friendship and betrayal, about the joy of fighting and the bitterness of defeat. The abundance of details and brilliantly constructed composition of the novel allow readers to immerse themselves in a long-lost world where, despite harsh customs, there was always room for the most noble and exalted aspirations of the human heart. The book presents the complete text of the novel, published by the "Academia" publishing house in 1936, with rare illustrations by the remarkable Soviet graphic artist Grigory Filipovsky.
