Sugar Child

This is a personal and soul-stirring story about five-year-old Ella, who, happily growing up in a loving family, suddenly finds herself the daughter of an "enemy of the people" and enters a terrifying, incomprehensible world when, after her father's arrest, she and her mother are sent to a labor camp. But despite all the trials, hunger, and diseases they have to endure, Ella and her mother do not lose heart: they sing songs, joke, and truly care for each other. 

"Sugar Child" is largely a "bildungsroman," a story of love, and also about what dignity is and what freedom is.
