The Gambler

Fyodor Dostoevsky – the main Russian writer, a master of psychological prose and a connoisseur of hidden human passions.

One of which – gambling – he himself was subjected to for a time. Alexei Ivanovich, a simple home tutor, lives with the family of an elderly general in a luxurious hotel at the German resort of Roulettenburg.

While all the gentlemen await the death of the general's wealthy Russian aunt to inherit her fortune, the main character becomes entangled in tormenting love affairs, based solely on pride and calculation.

He desperately tests his fate and luck at roulette.
