The Problems of Dostoevsky's Poetics. Works from Different Years

Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin (1895–1975) — an outstanding Russian thinker whose works extend far beyond the confines of literary studies and aesthetics. The first edition of Bakhtin's study on Dostoevsky (“The Problems of Dostoevsky's Creativity”) was published in 1929. At the time, it was at the center of heated discussions and this work has not lost its relevance to this day. In 1963, a second, revised, and expanded edition of the book on Dostoevsky was published under a different title — “The Problems of Dostoevsky's Poetics.” Furthermore, this edition includes articles and drafts of articles on L. N. Tolstoy; Bakhtin's most important work on philosophical concepts “Author and Hero in Aesthetic Activity”; what was once a revolutionary, and today a classical work “The Problem of Speech Genres”; the article “Epic and Novel (On the Methodology of Novel Research)”; as well as the article “The Problem of the Text,” which the author called “an experience of philosophical analysis of the problem of the text in linguistics, philology, and other humanities.”
