Somerset Maugham. King Lear of the Azure Coast. Biography

The hero of this book was one of the most talented and successful English writers of the 20th century. Although he led a quite orderly and even measured life, it turned out to be bright and eventful, filled with much — love and hate, friends and enemies, meetings and travels, but most importantly — a lot of creativity. People like him are referred to as a self-made man — a man who made himself. Before becoming a writer, Maugham worked as a doctor, participated in World War I, and after gaining fame in the literary field, tried his hand as an agent for British intelligence, in which capacity he managed to visit Russia at the height of the revolutionary events of 1917. Somerset Maugham's plays are still performed on theater stages today, and his novels have become classics.
