The quiet backwater of a remote Irish province somewhere between Sligo and Galway once again keeps Kelp Hooper, a former Chicago police officer who moved to Ireland in search of rural peace, from getting bored. Trey Reddy, a local teenager and now Kelp's apprentice in his woodworking, along with the rest of the Reddy family, find themselves at the eye of the cyclone that draws in the microcosm of the village of Ardnacalti. The wind has sown Johnny, the wayward head of the Reddy family, and the storm will hardly spare everyone in the area, young and old. Especially those who embody the unshakeable laws of these places, the unwritten rules by which this ancient land lives — those who have long been troubled by the rogues from the Reddy clan and who recently punished this family. In this detective western with elements of a gold-digging adventure, Kelp Hooper will once again have to solve problems from which he had unsuccessfully tried to escape from Chicago across the ocean, while trying not to part with his freedom, or even his life.
