Fables

Fables by I. A. Krylov (1769-1844) were met with great interest by the writer's contemporaries. The reading public laughed at the allegorical scenes, memorized the witty judgments of the fabulist. The publication of his books became major events in the... literary life of Russia. During his lifetime, he was called great and popular. But even today we are amazed by this wise understanding of life and the astonishing mastery of poetic imagery, the precision of words, and the richness of Krylov's language.
The illustrations for the classic fables were created by Evgeny Mikhailovich Rachyov (1906-1997). They immediately entered the golden collection of book illustration. E.M. Rachyov notes human facial expressions in the animal characters, showing their morals and character. The characters of Krylov's fables literally come to life in the brightest illustrations of the artist.
