The Book of the Dead — 2. Obituaries

In the second "Book of the Dead," Eduard Limонов continues to keep track of those who have departed to the other world and recalls those who remain in the baggage of his personal memory. He writes obituaries with fervor, without... compromise, vividly, in exact accordance with the famous saying of Chilon: "Of the dead, speak either well or not at all, except for the truth." His dead include his father and mother, Natalia Medvedeva, childhood friends, writers Sergey Dovlatov, Anatoly Pristavkin, and Alexander Zinoviev, photographer Helmut Newton; it is hard to imagine more diverse people, but they all left some mark in the writer's life, and there is something for him to say about each of them.
