The Teacher

William Crimsworth is young and poor. He feels like an outsider and is unhappy in his office job, and the position of a teacher at an expensive boys' boarding school in Brussels seems to him a happy change of fortune. It is there that he is to go through a difficult path of growing up and cruel "education of feelings" – from youthful infatuation with a vibrant woman older than himself to a deep, conscious feeling for a colleague, the beginning teacher Frances Henri.
