He was echoed by Margaret Atwood, also a two-time Booker laureate: Mantel "picks up where 'Wolf Hall' left off… her literary inventiveness remains unchanged; as precisely and accurately in every word." So, Henry VIII Tudor begins to be burdened by Anne Boleyn (the second of his, as it is known, six wives), for whom he initiated the religious reformation, making England independent from the Pope. However, Anne did not bring the king the long-awaited heir to the throne - and now Henry begins to glance at one of Anne's ladies-in-waiting, Jane Seymour. But getting rid of Anne and the powerful Boleyn clan is not so simple - and once again, the king will be assisted by Secretary of State Thomas Cromwell, a virtuoso master of behind-the-scenes intrigues. It seems well-known how this story will end - however, Mantel's novel is more captivating than any detective story... In 2015, the BBC channel adapted both books, starring Mark Rylance ("Another Boleyn Girl," "Bridge of Spies," "Dunkirk"), Damian Lewis ("Romeo and Juliet," "Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood"), Claire Foy ("The Old Guard," "The Crown," "First Man"). The series, known in Russian as "Wolf Hall," was nominated for the Golden Globe in three categories (won in one), BAFTA in eight (won in three), and for the Emmy in eight as well.
