Pride and Prejudice

The books of the famous English writer Jane Austen have long gained fame and reader love all over the world. The everyday life of ordinary people, the details of provincial life — this is the sphere of her literary interests. However, her sharp mind, sparkling humor, and subtle all-pervasive irony give Austen's works elegance and depth. The writer began work on the novel "Pride and Prejudice" at the age of 21. Publishers rejected the manuscript, and it lay unattended for more than fifteen years. Only after the success of the novel "Sense and Sensibility" was Jane Austen able to publish her "favorite creation." Before publication, she subjected it to careful editing and achieved an extraordinary combination of cheerfulness, immediacy, maturity of thought, and skill. It is no coincidence that the novel "Pride and Prejudice," which has not lost its charm and brilliance, is considered the most perfect of all that Jane Austen wrote. Among the numerous adaptations of the novel, one can note the remarkable miniseries from 1995, directed by Simon Langton (starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle). In this edition, the text of the novel is published in the canonical translation by Emmanuel Samoilovich Marshak.
