The Twelve Chairs. The Golden Calf

During the Soviet era, the two famous novels of Ilya Arnoldovich Ilf (1897-1937) and Evgeny Petrovich Petrov (1902-1942), "The Twelve Chairs" and "The Golden Calf", were repeatedly subjected to edits, changes, and reductions. In this edition, the complete texts of these novels are reproduced from their first book publications. At the end of the edition, the story "The Past of the Registry Officer" is published, which is an unpublished chapter from the novel "The Twelve Chairs"; it was first published in the magazine "30 Days" in 1929. The book is adorned with illustrations by Kukryniksy; more than thirty of their additional illustrations and design elements for the first editions of "The Twelve Chairs" are also included.
