Snow Country

Japan, 1930s. Shimamura is traveling by train through a snowy mountain landscape to relax in hot springs with Komako, whom he believes he loves. The girl counts each day since their last meeting and, in violation of all rules, falls in love with Shimamura, although she knows her love is doomed... The concise and elegant "Snow Country" is rightly considered a classic of Japanese literature and is one of the three works particularly highlighted when Kawabata was awarded the Nobel Prize.
