The Idiot

Dostoevsky was creating "The Idiot" while experiencing one of the most difficult periods of his life. Creditors, from whom he had to flee abroad, the death of his three-month-old daughter, a pathological addiction to roulette... His desperate situation prompted the writer to take on the idea that had long tormented him — to write a novel about a "positively beautiful man".

In a world ruled by vices, Prince Myshkin, with his meekness and kindness, his forgiveness and love for humanity, turns out to be a madman. Determined to save the soul of the fateful beauty Nastasya Filippovna, he stands in the way of the destructive passion of the merchant Parfyon Rogozhin...
