The name of William Butler Yeats, the great poet of Ireland who wrote in English and Nobel Prize laureate (1923), equally belongs to both Irish and English literature. The motifs of sagas about gods and heroes have merged in his poetry with a tradition that goes back to Shakespeare and Milton, Blake and Shelley.
