There is a wide variety of characters and events! It is a kind of chronicle of the "trials" of a young author (in which one can easily recognize Bulgakov himself and his play "Days of the Turbins") through theatrical and artistic Moscow. Among the people he meets are many famous writers, theater figures, and stage stars of the 1930s – from Alexei Tolstoy, Stanislavsky, and Nemirovich-Danchenko to Olga Knipper-Chekhova and Valentin Katayev.
