Kara-Bugaz

Nature has always been at the center of Paustovsky's creativity — a traveler in love with the world around him. It is to nature and its relationships with people that the story "Kara-Bugaz" is dedicated, the story of its creation which Paustovsky told so captivatingly in "The Golden Rose." At first glance, a completely prosaic theme — the development of salt deposits in a desert bay of the Caspian Sea — is revealed from many completely different angles. The selflessness of Russian officers and scientists, the desolate shores that instill superstitious terror in sailors and nomads — all of this intertwines under the pen of the master. The collection also includes the stories: "Colchis," "The Theory of Captain Gernet," and "The Lake Front."
