In the summer of 1984, when twilight falls on an idyllic suburb of Dublin, mothers call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children, two boys and a girl, do not return from the dark and silent forest. The police will find only one boy, Adam. He is terrified, pressing himself against the trunk of an old tree, his sneakers soaked in blood, and he remembers nothing... Twenty years later, the found boy, now named Rob Ryan, works as a detective in the Dublin murder squad and keeps his past a secret. But when the body of a murdered twelve-year-old girl is found near the same forest, everything eerily resembles that long-unsolved crime. According to one theory proposed by Rob Ryan and his partner Cassie Maddox, assigned to the investigation, this child murder might somehow be connected to the missing children from twenty years ago. Sifting through fragments of surviving yet long-buried memories, Ryan realizes that he has a chance not only to solve the new crime but also to uncover the mystery of his own past.
