The Tale of Sonya

The action of «The... Tale of Sonya» takes place in hungry post-revolutionary Moscow. The heroes of the tale are actress Sofia Holliday, artist Y. Zavadsky, poet P. Antokolsky, and of course, the incomparable Marina Tsvetaeva herself. «The Tale of Sonya» is the last prose work by Marina Tsvetaeva. Written in 1937 after the news of the death of a close friend, actress Sofia Holliday, it brings Tsvetaeva back to Moscow of 1919-1920. In a chain of memories about the life of Moscow's bohemia against the backdrop of social upheavals, accompanied by natural chronological disruptions and repetitions, Tsvetaeva poignantly mourns the end of the Silver Age.
