Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935) - a British archaeologist, traveler, military man, spy, writer, and diplomat. Thanks to his actions during the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire in 1916-1918, he earned the nickname Lawrence of Arabia. The author of the memoirs «Seven Pillars of Wisdom», which brought him worldwide fame. In his book «Rebellion in the Desert», long recognized as a classic of British adventure literature, Lawrence of Arabia illuminates the romance and heroism of colonial warfare in the East and the «burden of the white man» in a Kiplingesque spirit. He provides not only a comprehensive picture of the «Arab Revolt» but also a general description of military actions in the Middle Eastern theater of World War I, in Palestine and Mesopotamia.
