Four summers ago, Ulvar did not return from a trading trip and disappeared. His young wife, Snefrid, is harassed by people to whom Ulvar owes money, as well as dangerous masters of the mysterious locked chest he left behind. Overwhelmed by troubles from all sides, Snefrid resolves to undertake an unheard-of task – to journey across the sea to Gard, in search of her husband.
