Flemish Board

An unfinished chess game in the painting by a Flemish artist and a mysterious inscription found beneath the layer of paint become the key to investigating murders taking place in the present day. Each of the characters in the novel... turns into a chess piece, participating in the unfolding devilish game. And the silent drama reflected in the painting receives a strange continuation several centuries later. Painting and mathematics, logic and history are employed in the novel to serve a precise, perfectly crafted plot from the world of collectors and antiquarians. The action takes the characters into the past and forces them to discover that time has no power over human passions. And unlike chess, in reality, 'nothing is ever just black or white': good easily turns into evil, and the victim into the executioner.
