Northanger Abbey

Jane Austen (1775-1817) — an English writer, a herald of realism and the founder of the "family novel." Her books captivate with unpretentious sincerity, simplicity of plot, depth of psychological portraits of characters, and ironic "English" humor. In all colleges and universities in the United Kingdom, her novels are mandatory for study. Austen was born into the family of a clergyman, where quite unrestrained morals prevailed. Having received almost no formal education, she read a lot and began to write at the age of fourteen. During her lifetime, her books were published anonymously, under the name of some "Lady." In addition to numerous adaptations of her novels, several feature films have been made about the life of the writer. Catherine Morland - the main character of "Northanger Abbey" - is a young girl, well-read in Gothic novels and living in her own special, imagined world, who goes to a fashionable resort. Meeting Henry Tilney and the feelings that arise towards him help her to learn about real life and find herself.
