This collection includes works by Bulgakov that have an autobiographical character. «Notes on the Cuffs» – a witty, ironic novella dedicated to wanderings in the post-revolutionary Caucasus, complex relationships with the «red» authorities and fellow writers, dreams of emigration, and first attempts at literature. «Notes of a Young Doctor» – almost documentary essays by Bulgakov about the holy and terrible fate of a servant of Hippocrates in the poor, almost medieval Russian province of the early 1920s. «Morphine» – a chillingly candid, harrowing confession that served as the basis for the film of the same name by Alexei Balabanov.
