Ancient universities are full of dark secrets. When graduate student Isabel arrives to study at a university in Scotland – in a quiet little town with a medieval flair, she is surprised to learn that her academic advisor has died under strange circumstances. Soon, her classmate Rose goes missing. All the crimes are connected to the legend of a huge cursed emerald that was once intended as a gift for Catherine de' Medici. Unraveling one thread after another, Isabel goes to Florence and Paris, immersing herself in the atmosphere of medieval family secrets filled with betrayals and infidelities.
