Charles Dickens is one of the most famous English writers. The center of this novel's action is the story of the life of the young orphan Esther Summerson. After coming under the guardianship of a random benefactor, Mr. Jarndyce, she, upon finishing the boarding school, arrives at his old estate known as Bleak House, which is connected to one of the most famous cases of the House of Lords, "Jarndyce v. Jarndyce." Gradually settling into her new home and making new acquaintances, the girl, by the will of circumstances, finds herself involved in a complex intertwining of human fates, personal feelings, criminal intrigues, and other people's family secrets — one of which, as it soon turns out, has a direct relation to Esther herself… In this edition, for the first time in Russia, the text of the novel is accompanied by two sets of illustrations by the remarkable English artists of the 19th century, Frederick Barnard and Hablot Knight Browne.
