Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) was a writer, poet, essayist, and representative of American Romanticism. His influence on world literature is immense — he is the founder of the classic detective story, science fiction, and psychological tales, having anticipated the era in which he lived, shaping new unique genres.
The "father" of the modern thriller created a special mystical stirring world in his works, where dark events and catastrophes tragically alter the consciousness of the protagonist, engulfed in terror and losing control over himself. The sinister, oppressive environment, the overall atmosphere of hopelessness and despair allows the reader to experience different states — from sadness and anxiety to intrigue and fear.
This book includes the most famous works of E. A. Poe: "The Fall of the House of Usher," "Berenice," "The Murder of Marie Rogêt," and many others, where the author attempts to unravel the metamorphoses of the human psyche and to understand its hidden properties and pathologies that emerge under "anomalous" conditions.
The edition is organically complemented by illustrations by Harry Clarke.
