In a small town, three corpses are found one after another. Young men, husbands, and fathers, killed with a strange weapon to the heart. The town's mayor, Anita Komarets, suspects that forces not wanting to see her in the mayor's chair after the upcoming elections are involved in the murders. Even her own stepdaughter, Kiku, who is fanatically obsessed with chrysanthemums, keeps her on edge. To untangle this strange knot, investigator Polina Kargopolova arrives in the town.
