After experiencing a tragedy, fifteen-year-old Dima's speech has turned into a series of repeated sounds. He listens better than he speaks. Enduring the mockery of classmates and a drinking father silently is hard; it's easier to wander around the city, returning to the night. But he can no longer remain silent!
The rhythm of St. Petersburg leads Dima and shows him a different life. New friends with strange names appear — the calm Psycho, the mocking Cat, the sensitive Sun. They introduce him to breakdancing — the art of turning history into pulse and movement. Jump, run, freeze — that's how it looks from the outside. But this set of understandable steps and movements turns out to be more expressive than words. Now Dima is ready to declare himself.
Incredibly emotional, at times tragic, but ultimately very affirming, Nikolai Sholokhov's tale won him the "Young adult" nomination at the "Teen N" competition. "Jump. Run. Freeze" is about the resurrecting power of creativity, one's own inner strength, and how important it is to find your voice.
