Towards Swann

The novel "Towards Swann," opening the cycle "In Search of Lost Time," made a rather ambiguous impression on French criticism after its publication in 1913 – Proust's stylistic innovation, boldly playing with time and events and intertwining them into a sufficiently complex chronologically unified whole, was not embraced by everyone. However, time has proven both the limitations of critics and the genius of the writer, whose exquisite, piercing, and sorrowful work on love, jealousy, growing up and misunderstanding, the eternal solitude of a sensitive person in society and the futile and desperate search for ever-elusive beauty, continues to captivate readers.
