The novel by Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818-1883) is considered one of the first modern novels in the classical literary tradition of Russia. The author explores the growing nihilistic movement in mid-19th century Russia – a theme that influenced F.M. Dostoevsky... and many other European writers.
