The War of the Worlds

In «The War of the Worlds», H.G. Wells created an image of a large-scale existential threat to humanity – a threat that forces a reassessment of all the achievements that humans reached by the beginning of the 20th century. What is the notorious «progress» worth, social and economic changes in a critical situation? Can a person survive when the state is powerless and he goes from being a citizen endowed with an extensive set of rights and freedoms to simply being game, a target for hunting? The famous radio broadcast of November 30, 1938, and the public's reaction to it, showed the relevance of the issue outlined by Wells. And now, more than a hundred years after the publication of the novel, many books, films, and plays on the theme of humanity's demise continue to be released — which means H.G. Wells' shot hit the mark.
