Quarteron

«Quarteron» is partially based on the author's personal experience. At the age of twenty-one, Reid left England and moved to New Orleans. Following a similar path, albeit a couple of decades later, is the book's protagonist, young British man Edward. In Louisiana, the young man falls in love with the beautiful quarteron Aurora. Despite her good education and aristocratic manners, Aurora remains a slave. However, her mistress, the young Eugenie Besancon, is nearly bankrupt, and soon the girl's property — house, plantation, and slaves — will go up for auction. In an attempt to raise money to redeem his beloved, Edward becomes embroiled in one adventure after another…
