More than a hundred years have passed since the creation of Maxim Gorky's play «At the Bottom», and its heroes have not disappeared and are still recognizable: homeless people, thieves, prostitutes — rejected by society, the people of the «bottom»... — as if they have moved through time, not losing their problems, from Gorky's den to the streets of the modern metropolis. And the question of the necessity of choosing one's position remains equally relevant: «Man is proud to sound!» or «One must pity a person»? What to choose — lies for salvation or bitter truth?
