The historical fate brought face to face on the Amur two great states, Russia and China, two great peoples, and since then they have walked side by side, closely together, like two neighbors on the endless road of life. There... were disagreements between them, even quarrels and clashes, but there was also mutual assistance and vows of eternal friendship — all as happens among neighbors. And the inhabitants of these countries, willingly or unwillingly, repeated and continue to repeat in their lives their relationship. The stories of two families, two lineages — the Russian Cossack Sayapin and the Chinese shoemaker Wang Xiumin — reflect this thorny shared path as in a mirror: there is a place for both love and hatred here, and sometimes it’s unknown which is greater and where these mutual feelings will lead.
