Ancient Tragedies

In the 5th century BC, the flourishing of Greek tragedy and theater begins. One after another, three great tragedians emerge on the historical scene – Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. Their plays had a significant influence on William Shakespeare, Jean-Baptiste Molière, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Oscar Wilde, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, and other servants of the arts. References to the great tragedies can also be found in psychology, such as the Oedipus complex and the Electra complex, as well as in the lyrics of contemporary rock bands and even in advertisements.
