Anna Karenina

«Anna Karenina» — one of the greatest works of world literature. The story of an all-consuming passion of a married woman and a handsome officer, for whom she defied everything: the opinion of society, accepted morality, her own conscience. In the novel, Leo Tolstoy managed to paint a large-scale picture of the mores and life of the noble class in St. Petersburg and Moscow in the second half of the 19th century, combining philosophical reflections of the author's alter ego Levin with advanced psychological plots in Russian literature, as well as scenes from the life of peasants. «Anna Karenina» is a novel about love, family, the meaning of life and, of course, women's destiny. By showing the stories of several families, both happy and unhappy, Tolstoy tells about the subtlest movements of the human soul: it seems that in this novel he understood people better than they themselves can understand. The publication is organically complemented by illustrations by Laszlo Matulay.
