South Korea. The Price of Economic Miracle

South Korea is usually associated with supermodern technologies and transnational corporations, beautiful cars and soaring skyscrapers, charming K-POP singers. It seems that these images come from the future. However, behind this beautiful “cover” lies another side: Korean media is full of stories about internal crises, scandals, and a constant competitive race; Koreans often complain about life and, if surveys are to be believed, are quite unhappy. At what cost is the admired world of success attained? Oleg Kiryanyov is an international journalist, political scientist, historian of Korea, candidate of historical sciences. He graduated from the Korean Department of the Eastern Faculty of St. Petersburg State University, as well as from the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at Seoul National University. He specializes in the history and contemporary issues of the Korean Peninsula and has lived and worked in Seoul for over 20 years. He offers the reader a different perspective on Korea, largely through the eyes of the Koreans themselves.
